My name is Tammy and this is the 2nd part of my blog about our “Women of the Internet” promotion celebrating International Women’s Day. Here is my experience with top female “Blog Stars” and the charities they chose to support. Check out last week’s post to learn more about this campaign.
4 outstanding female bloggers partnered with us and managed to make a difference in many women’s lives in turn. Here is a brief glimpse of each of these ladies, their blogs and what matters to them.
Jessica Gottlieb is a true “Blog Star.” She is number 16 on Babble’s list of Top 50 Mom Bloggers and also the 5th most controversial. Perhaps the most prestigious list that she tops is Forbes 14 Power Women to Follow on Twitter. Jessica is a delight and she has a wonderful sense of humor yet showed an intense empathy for the women she helped at The Dream Center’s Rescue Project. The Rescue Project is an outreach for victims of Human Trafficking.
Jenny Lawson is a very talented writer (I dare you to read a post and not get sucked right in!) who writes for several blogs including TheBloggess.com and Good Mom/ Bad Mom for the Houston Chronicle. Jenny immediately responded to my invitation and shared her desire to support End the Backlog, which helps rape kits get tested that are on backlog because of lack of financing. Victims of rape deserve justice, and Jenny helped bring this justice to more women with her $1,000 gift.
BizzieMommy.com is another fantastic blog we approached and Stephanie Elie was more than happy to support one of her favorite charities – Dress for Success. This international non-profit improves women’s lives in 110 cities by providing professional clothing and support for women to be self-sufficient and successful. Yay for woman empowerment!
Stephanie is a true “BizzieMommy.” She has a full-time job, an online baby boutique, an entrepreneur blog, an organic blog and is the Digital Channel Editor at Lifetimemoms.com. Phew! I’m worn out just reading about it.
The fourth lady to join our initiative was single mom blogger and author of mssinglemama.com, Alaina Sheer. Woman’s Day, Glamour and CNN.com have been graced with Alaina’s presence. The Respect Institute received Alaina’s $1,000 pledge. Their mission is to make respect the status quo by providing youth and families with the vision and tools to foster self-respect and spread respect. I think we could all use a few more doses of that.
This experience for me was very special. Not only because of the wonderful interactions I had with these inspirational women, but because being given the opportunity to participate in “giving back” is good for the soul. I have never worked for a company before that cared so much, not only about its publishers, but about others in general.
